In lieu of incarceration, the Jail Division of the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office has an inmate Work Alternative Program. The program is known to most as W.A. (Work Alternative) or S.W.A.P. (Sheriff Work Alternative Program). To qualify for S.W.A.P., the person must have received a jail sentence of 30 days or less. There is a sign-up fee of $60.00 and a daily fee of $10.00 payable by Cashier’s Check or money order made out to San Benito County Sheriff. Registration for the program is done by appointment only and you must call the jail immediately upon sentencing at 831-636-4123 to schedule an appointment. You must have your court paperwork available when you contact the jail for your appointment. The registration process takes approximately 30 minutes.
The program accepts court commitments from other counties only if a reciprocity agreement is on file with that county.
The program is located at the County Jail. The address is 710 Flynn Road, Hollister, CA. and operates everyday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
